The Slat Chair

Modern-day furniture is constantly evolving and becoming something so much more. For the fifth anniversary of the Formica competition “The Slat Chair” was designed to withhold the standards of modern-day furniture. Using the Formica laminate was essential for this creative design. The light but durable material made it possible for this piece of furniture to be multipurpose. The durability allows users to sit comfortably and or use the desk function without a problem. The lightweight of the laminate allows for the transformation aspect from chair to desk to be possible. The materials used for this project were the gray graphite, planked coffee oak woodgrain, and the white gloss writable surface. The side pieces of the chair have graphite material, to give it a sleek modern feel. The seat and backrest are both double-sided. On one side, planked coffee oak gives this furniture piece a home-like feel, and the other side is made from the white glossy surface. The white gloss acts as a writing surface when the backrest of the chair is organized into a desk. Both pieces can be completely separated from the chair and may be used as individual whiteboards. All of these elements have been carefully crafted to conjoint with each other. The design world for furniture is rapidly changing, this is the solution for the future.
